Why the Shape Up?

A little bit about me…
Hi, I’m Jessica Payne, owner of Payne N Gainz. I am just like you - I don’t come from an athletic background; I spent many years struggling with my weight; and I was the girl who always had a note so I could skip P.E. class! I fell in love with all things health and fitness in 2011 and followed my passion to qualify as a Personal Trainer in 2013.
Since then I have continually invested in myself - both in terms of my personal fitness journey and education. I have been coached by, and learned from, a variety of highly esteemed fitness coaches and in 2020 I began studying to become an evidence-based Nutritionist with the world-renowned Mac Nutrition Uni.
I am passionate about helping women achieve their health and fitness goals in a sustainable manner without sacrificing their social life. My mission is to share my knowledge with as many women as possible so they can ditch the yo-yo dieting forever and spend life looking good, feeling good and living good!

Frequently Asked Questions
The Shape Up is suitable for all ages and abilities - the participants range in age between 18 and 70! Beginners will start with bodyweight/light weights whilst advanced lifters will use heavier weights. The programme is designed to help you master core exercises and progress over time, regardless of your experience.
No, unfortunately not. The Shape Up is a set programme. If you do have specific requirements, I recommend you join my Shape for Life Plan instead, which is completely tailored to your needs. Please get in touch with me to find out how I can help you.
No. There are both home and gym options available so you can select which one suits you.
At a minimum, the only equipment you’ll need is a set of dumbbells and some small resistance loop bands, aka “booty bands”. These are really cheap to purchase from places such as Amazon, Argos and even some supermarkets.
If you have other equipment such as Kettlebells or a barbell, feel free to use these and adapt the exercises as required.
This is completely individual and it totally depends on your experience, ability and strength. Most complete beginners start with around 2kg/3kg and progress up to 4kg/5kg or sometimes higher as they get stronger throughout the challenge. Equally, if you are already very experienced at lifting weights you could use much heavier weights. It all depends on ability. As long as you use weights that are challenging, yet allow you to adopt the correct form for the exercises, you will achieve great results.
As part of the challenge I will be advising a daily step goal to achieve so a pedometer of some sort would be useful. This doesn’t have to be an expensive FitBit or smart watch. Most mobile phones now include a step tracker.
On average, the workouts take around 45-60 minutes to complete.
